“How do you build an interactive 3D ecosystem based on open standards?”

Blog article: By Rick Klooster

As I have indicated in my previous blogs, we are in the middle of the transition from 2D to 3D working. Where ten years ago you could easily come up with a 2d card or design, you can no longer make that. Logical too, because a 3D representation is of course much better in line with the perception and expectations of a non-technical audience. There is more and more open 3D data and there are more and more very cool 3D applications that support policy and decision-making and can make life much easier.

But how do you ensure that those applications connect and work together in the future so that a sustainable solution is created? Our answer, an ecosystem based on open standards and APIs! From Future Insight we help to set up a solid 3D base file that is current and accurate based on the international open CityGML and 3D Tiles standards.

Via www.Nederlandin3D.nl we work together with parties that endorse this principle and in this way we create together this open ecosystem.

Because only together, can we see the bigger picture.

Such a 3D ecosystem is the foundation for better solutions and the acceleration of processes. Less costly reports are needed and we can work together in a sustainable way in a continuously developing world. An environment in which organizations are given the opportunity to look to the future with more certainty and to improve data and the applications of data forever.

The number of possible 3D applications is of course endless and will continue to grow. We are very pleased that Tygron now also connects their GeoDesign platform to the CityGML standard. In this platform you can interactively draw developments in your municipality in 3D and calculate them directly.

This is of course also fully in line with the environmental law and is quickly of indispensable value for themes such as energy, traffic, housing and climate.

By working on developments together in interactive workshops in 3D and receiving direct feedback, more stakeholders can be better involved in the process. This will create more support and better plans will be made.

This process has been possible for years on the basis of generated open data, but you can now also use your own current and accurate 3D CityGML base file for this. Moreover, the use of open standards makes it very easy to read any preferred scenarios from the workshops back into the Netherlands in 3D and thus communicate easily online with a wide audience.

Another great example of how the use of open standards and collaboration in the chain can really advance innovation without you getting caught in a vendor lock-in.

Future Insight and Tygron have found each other on the basis of these principles and anyone who also meets these principles is very welcome.

On June 3, at 10:30 am, we will jointly organize the webinar “Using your 3D data for integrated decision-making”

In this Webinar we will take a closer look at 3D ecosystems based on open standards and the possibilities and potential of interactive collaboration.
