European Dataspaces: The future of secure digital infrastructure

European data spaces are a hot topic these days, but what does it look like in practice? As a proud partner of the innovative DT-aCoGo project of the European Data Space for Smart Communities, we are working on the digital infrastructure of tomorrow. As a frontrunner, we are developing concrete data spaces that set the standard for secure data exchange.
Why traditional data sharing via email or WeTransfer is outdated
Much data is currently still shared via email or WeTransfer. However, this is prone to errors. The lack of a single source of truth makes it difficult to verify whether data is up-to-date. This increases the risk of decisions being made based on outdated information. Moreover, these methods often lack oversight of who exactly has access to the sensitive data.
The Solution: Secure Data Spaces and Digital Ecosystems
That is precisely where Data Spaces offer the solution. These are digital ecosystems within which
Data can be shared securely without losing control over ownership. Our data space is based on open standards and the "data at the source" principle. This ensures that data remains securely with its owner and guarantees interoperability.

Practical case: The DT-aCoGo project (Digital Twin as a Common Good)
We are currently developing and testing this scenario in practice within the DT-aCoGo project. The cities of 's-Hertogenbosch, Rotterdam, and Tampere are securely sharing closed data via the Open Urban Platform. By unlocking data at the source based on open standards, we are creating a single, reliable source of truth.
Development is currently in full swing. The project runs until August 31st. In the coming period, we will take further steps with the simulation and calculation modules that use this data. More on that later.
